Sunday February 9th, a Sefer Torah was dedicated in the merit of Captain Omer Maxim Neutra at Midway Jewish Center led by Rabbi Joel Levenson. The 613th and final mitzvah in the Torah is to write (or contribute to the writing of) a Torah scroll. Hundreds of people in the community gathered to watch the completion of the handwritten scroll. In an incredibly moving and emotional ceremony many shared stories of Omer's impactful and legendary 21 years. The Shireinu Choir of Long Island filled the room with beautiful melodies bringing the warmth in the room to another level. The President of Midway Jewish Center, Tracy Slavsky, announced the establishment of the Omer Neutra Memorial Scholarship Fund providing support to MJC High School students in USY summer programs, peer trips to Israel or Gap Year opportunities. Attached is a short video montage of the event. May Omer's beautiful Torah be used at many joyous occasions spreading light and love. Photography by Kimberly Vernick Photography
